Social Justice Spotlight: Sex Trafficking

Today’s spotlight is on sex trafficking.  This is a justice issue that as Christ-followers we can’t afford to ignore.

Quoted from Al Mohler’s blog:

Then something truly interesting started to happen. Influential forces in society began to notice the scale and magnitude of the market for sex. Law enforcement officials started to acknowledge the fact that women, along with under-age girls and boys, were being “trafficked” through international networks of gangsters. By the end of the last decade, American officials were aware that sex trafficking was taking place in cities large and small. Women, along with boys and girls, were being kidnapped in far parts of the world and on the streets of American cities, to be sold into what could only be considered as sexual slavery.

One of the condemnations that God held against Israel when he exiled them from the promised land was their treatment of sojourners, widows, and orphans:

3 Thus says the LORD: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place. (Jeremiah 22:2-3).

Sex-trafficking is not only prostitution and rape, but oftentimes it is the method by which girls and boys are kidnapped from their parents and made sex slaves (thus essentially an orphan is created).  It is also injustice to sojourners (because many times these are children from other countries).  As believers we must stand up for the rights of those who can’t stand up for themselves.
